The first building many Howard acreage blocks actually receive
Howard grew up on the Burrum coalfield. These days the work is rural-residential: acreage either side of the highway, people who have moved up, and hobby farms with a few head. A lot of those blocks were bought bare, with no shed or only a small one. A container is frequently the first thing on the lot that locks.
Howard deliveries start at the Bundaberg yard
No staffed yard sits in Howard. The container is chosen in Bundaberg, checked there if it is a cargo-worthy unit, and trucked down the highway. Photos of that unit, serial readable, are a phone call away and arrive before delivery. On a bare block the photos we need from you matter just as much: the drive from the gate, and the pad you have in mind.
The yard address we publish is Bundaberg 4670, not a Howard street. Ring the Bundaberg number on this page and say Howard at the start so the note is filed against the right run.
Bare land, mowers, and week-empty lots
If you are building on bare acreage, a 20ft from the start holds tools, fittings and materials and saves repeated trips to Maryborough or the Bay. Builders like a lockable space on site. After the house, it becomes the mower store or the workshop. It needs bearers, not a slab, and it is usable the day it is put down.
People bringing a household up from the south-east, ahead of a house that is not finished, often want the longer box. A 40ft holds roughly two 20ft loads of furniture and is the better buy per cubic metre. Ride-on mowers and small plant are the everyday contents once the grass is yours. Blocks that sit empty through the week want the lock more than the volume. Cargo-worthy grade, up on bearers, with vents, is what keeps furniture respectable for months. As-is is the wrong grade for a lounge suite.
Howard, Burrum and the 4659 code
Howard, Burrum Town, Burrum Heads, Pacific Haven, Beelbi Creek and Burrum River are postcode 4659. Cherwell, nearby, is 4660 — closer to the Childers code than to Howard's. Torbanlea, a few minutes along, is 4662 and has its own page.
Burrum Heads and Pacific Haven feel the salt more than a highway acreage lot in Howard. Say which one. A box that will live outside for years near the Heads wants cargo-worthy or new; a box behind a house in Howard town can be a sound used unit without the coastal upkeep.
Sandy drives and gums that suit a ute
The room is rarely the problem. The driveway is. Many are long, sandy, and lined with old gums whose limbs clear a ute and not a loaded truck. Sidelifters also need clear air above the pad, not only above the cab. Walk it before you order. Note the narrowest gate, any low limb, and whether rain has churned the sandy patches. Photos of the drive and the spot tell us tilt-tray or crane, which is the difference between one trip and two.
Low corners hold water after summer storms, and a box standing in that water rots its floor from underneath — a different failure from a leaky roof. Choose ground that drains, slightly raised, and have bearers ready. If the block falls toward a creek or the Burrum, stay off the flats. Rising water is not something the doors keep out, and an empty container can float. Leaving truck access clear also means you can change your mind about the spot later. Can this be the first structure on a bare Howard block?
Yes. That is the common pattern. Bearers under the corners, no slab, locked from the day it lands. If it will stay permanently, check with Fraser Coast Regional Council.
Gum limbs hang over the sandy drive. Does that stop you?
It can stop a truck. Tell us the clearance and send photos. Trimming before the day is usually simpler than a second attempt. If the limbs stay, we look at another pad or a different truck.
Will furniture be all right in there for months, waiting on the build?
In a cargo-worthy unit, up on bearers, with vents and moisture absorbers, and with the furniture off the floor and off the walls, yes. Do not use an as-is box for that job.
We are at Burrum Heads, not Howard town. Does the advice change?
The salt does. For a long outdoor stay, cargo-worthy or new is the grade we would start with. Sandy ground may also need a firm pad under the truck. Postcode 4659 covers both, so say Burrum Heads in the enquiry.
Torbanlea along the old highway
Torbanlea is the next small town and has its own horse-block notes. South is Maryborough. The Isis ridge, if you are heading north, is Childers.
