Most delivery problems are access problems, and nearly all of them are avoidable with one conversation beforehand.
We deliver from Bundaberg out to Gin Gin, down through Childers and Howard to Maryborough and Hervey Bay, east to the coast and north up the Discovery Coast. The jobs that go wrong almost never go wrong because of the container. They go wrong because the truck couldn't get to where the container needed to be.
Tilt-tray takes a 10ft or a 20ft and slides it off the back. It needs a run-up: roughly 20 metres of clear straight space behind the drop point, about 3.5 metres of width, and reasonably firm ground.
Sidelifter lifts the container off the side with cranes and can place it more precisely, including over a fence line. It's how 40-footers arrive. It needs more room overall — around 30 metres of working length — and level, firm standing on the side it's lifting from, because those legs put serious point load into the ground.
Crane truck (HIAB) is the answer when neither of those will work: steep blocks, over a fence, down a tight side access. It costs more, and very little is genuinely impossible with one.
Ground condition. The big one here, and it changes with the postcode. Sand at Woodgate and the older Bargara blocks. Heavy soil through the farming belt that turns after rain. Recently filled or freshly graded pads anywhere. A bogged truck is a recovery bill and a rescheduled delivery.
Overhead. Power lines, tree limbs, patio edges, shade sails. A sidelifter needs genuine clearance above the drop point, not just above the truck. Long untrimmed driveways out through Howard and Torbanlea catch people regularly.
The approach. Gateway width, tight corners, cattle grids and their load rating, and whether the last few hundred metres is a formed road or a paddock track.
The pad. Where exactly it's going, and whether it's level. A container out of level doesn't just look wrong — the doors bind and eventually won't seal.
How high. If you're anywhere near the Burnett or the Mary, we'll ask about height on the block before we ask about anything else. A container is watertight against rain from above, not against rising water, so where it sits is what protects the contents.
Have the blocks or sleepers already there, positioned for the corner castings. Mow or clear the path so the driver can see the ground he's driving on. Move the vehicles and the trailer that always seem to be exactly where the truck needs to swing. Be there, or leave a phone number that answers.
Steep coastal blocks, tight town lots and long sandy driveways aren't dead ends — they just need a different approach, sometimes a crane truck and occasionally a rethink about where the container sits. Tell us early and it's a solvable problem. Tell us on delivery day and it's a second trip.
